Employment Law Advice for Employees

Are you an employee suffering discrimination at work, facing redundancy or needing a settlement agreement signing? Maybe you’ve been asked to attend a disciplinary meeting and aren’t sure what to expect? Our expert employment law solicitors help hundreds of clients a year solve their workplace problems with friendly and easy to understand employment law advice.

Backhouse Solicitors started out as a specialist employment law firm offering high levels of expertise and service to all types of employees.  While we have expanded our range of services, our specialist employment law team is stronger and bigger than ever, and waiting to help you solve your problems.

Our approach

When you are having employment problems at work, we appreciate that you may need to make difficult decisions that may affect your future career.  At Backhouse Solicitors we understand the need to talk to a friendly and experienced professional who can give you the confidence to make the right choices.

We can help you as soon as a problem arises and before you talk to your employer.  After our first meeting, we are always on hand to provide practical advice and guidance on employment law and can, if necessary, help you prepare for a disciplinary hearing or represent you in an employment tribunal.

Our areas of expertise

Some of the many ways we can help include:

  • Reviewing and signing a Settlement Agreement (formerly Compromise Agreement)
  • Advising on an employment contract
  • Preparing and guiding you through a grievance or disciplinary process
  • Advising on specific conditions such as restrictive covenants in your employment contract
  • Responding to harassment and bullying at work
  • Conducting Employment Tribunal proceedings on your behalf
  • Dealing with Discrimination at Work
  • Advising on redundancy and unfair dismissal
  • Negotiating settlements with your employer

How much will it cost?

At Backhouse Solicitors we give a clear estimate of how much our services will cost so you avoid any nasty surprises.  If the work proves more involved than expected we will always tell you before charging more fees.

Depending on the details of your case, we may be able to agree a fixed fee in advance.

If you have Legal Expenses cover through one of your household or motor insurance policies, we can deal directly with your insurers to put cover in place.  This can mean that your legal fees are paid in full.

Our Team of Lawyers

Our team has a successful track record of representing employees from all over the UK.  We have the experience and skills to help any employee in a business from shop floor worker to managing director.  Our experience also extends to dealing with Unions and Insurance Companies who may be able to fund your case through legal expenses insurance.

What level of award could you receive?

From 6 April 2015 the Employment Tribunal can award employees up to £92,585 in unfair dismissal cases (compensatory award limited to the lower of £78,335 and one year’s pay).

There is no limit on the awards for discrimination cases and as an example we have achieved an award for an employee suffering age discrimination of £150,000.
