Speech Mark I am writing to you to tell you how grateful I am for your help. My employers had made my life hell by discriminating against me because of my health condition. I came to see you one evening after work (which you stayed well beyond your opening hours to see me) to discuss the matter. For someone like me who had never been in this situation you made the whole experience very easy and professional. You even worked the finances out so that you made it possible for me to take further action. I cannot recommend or thank you enough for your help and support in this matter, I will always recommend you to any friends or family who may find themselves in an awkward position with their employer. I actually felt I had someone on my side and it was not just me against a big company. Speech Mark

Working Time Regulations and the National Minimum Wage

Employee Service

Are you being asked to work excessive hours?  Are you being paid less than the National Minimum Wage?

Your employer cannot force you to work more than 48 hours a week taken on average over a 17 week period.  You may choose to opt out of this rule voluntarily, but you cannot be forced to do so, and you can cancel your opt out at any time with 7 days’ notice.  You must also be paid at least the National Minimum Wage for the hours that you work.  The hourly rate is based on your age and usually increases each year.

At Backhouse Solicitors we are experts in employment law and can help you understand if your employer is unlawfully forcing you to work excessive hours, or paying you too little.  We will give you a free, no-obligation 30 minute appointment to discuss your case with you, and if you are not being treated properly we can take action on your behalf.  This may be a simple letter to your employer which resolves the situation, or it could be a tribunal claim for unlawfully deducted wages or unfair dismissal.  We will help you at every step including issuing your claim, preparing your case, negotiating with the other side and representing you at the employment tribunal.

The benefits for you:

  • A free 30 minute interview – you can get our initial advice for free
  • Our advice may help you to resolve the issue informally with your employer
  • If you have been underpaid, you may be able to recover the back pay from your employer

Don’t suffer an unfair wage in silence - contact us on 01245 893400 or email info@backhouse-solicitors.co.uk to speak to one of our expert solicitors.
