Discrimination claims can be the worst types of claim for an employer to receive. Under the Equality Act 2010, employees can bring claims on the grounds of Age, Disability, Gender reassignment, Race, Religion or belief, Sex, Sexual orientation, Marriage/civil partnership and Pregnancy/maternity.
The first reason that these claims are so serious is that Tribunal awards for discrimination are potentially unlimited. The second reason is that successful claims will often prompt other employees who feel that they have been discriminated against in the same way to bring their own claims. Finally, the publicity surrounding these claims can badly damage an employer’s reputation, particularly for larger employers. It is therefore critical that these highly sensitive cases are dealt with properly from the outset.
At Backhouse Solicitors we are experts in this field having successfully defended many discrimination claims
