At the start of last year, we announced that two more of the talented team at Backhouse Solicitors would be embarking on the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship journey with BPP.

Now, twelve months on, we’ve caught up with Amy and Charlotte to hear more about their experiences, the challenges they’ve embraced, and how they’ve navigated their first year on the programme.

My first year in my legal apprenticeship has been both challenging and rewarding. I have developed a strong foundation in legal principles through my studies with BPP while also gaining valuable practical experience in the professional setting. Over the past year, I have developed my skills further through research, drafting documents, communicating with clients and colleagues and have also become more confident in supporting fee earners and managing my responsibilities as an apprentice solicitor.

Amy Crisp, Apprentice Solicitor

I have really enjoyed the past year of my Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship as it has given me the opportunity to build my knowledge through study as well as developing my professional skills during my daily work. The assignments on the apprenticeship are beneficial as they simulate real-life situations and involve preparing advice for faux clients, practicing drafting of legal documents, and speaking to supervisors, which flows nicely with my job role. Although I am currently in the litigation department, I am currently enjoying my Commercial Law module as it ties in with the commercial disputes we deal with in the department.

Charlotte McDonald, Apprentice Solicitor

It's clear that our apprentices have truly risen to the occasion. Over the course of their first year, they have both shown remarkable growth, not just in their training but also in their confidence and contribution within the firm. It's been fantastic to see how naturally they have embraced the balance of work, study and everything in between.

Their dedication has been evident from day one. Whether it's their willingness to take on new responsibilities, their enthusiasm for diving into new learning opportunities, or their genuine passion for the legal world, both have demonstrated a real commitment to building their future careers. Their drive to expand their knowledge, along with their energy and enthusiasm, continues to brighten the office and shine through in the great work they produce.

As they head into their second year, the team at Backhouse is excited to continue supporting them every step of the way. We look forward to seeing their talent continue to flourish!
