This time last year, we shared the exciting news that three more dedicated members of the Backhouse Solicitors team were beginning their journey towards qualification through the Level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship progreamme with BPP.

One year on, Courtney, Lucas and Charlotte have taken time to reflect on their experiences, share some of the highlights from the programme, and discuss how they have developed both personally and professionally.

My first year of my level 7 Solicitor Apprenticeship has been incredibly gratifying. Balancing work and study has been challenging at times but has given me a better understanding of the different areas of law. Being able to apply what I learn in practice makes the academic side far more meaningful and helps bring the theory to life. Since starting the apprenticeship, I have developed greater confidence in both my drafting skills and my ability to communicate effectively with clients, which has been valuable to my professional growth. I am excited to continue building my knowledge and skills as I progress through the programme.

Courtney Partridge, Apprentice Solicitor

The first year of my legal apprenticeship has provided me with valuable knowledge in ensuring the competency of my professional skills and in understanding both the legal and moral obligations which come with acting as a solicitor. These key aspects of my apprenticeship have allowed me to develop in my work and have given me greater confidence in my day-to-day role.

I enjoyed studying law at an undergraduate level, but having started my apprenticeship, being able to utilise the skills I have previously developed whilst working has provided me with a greater opportunity to develop both my practical legal skills and continue to develop my understanding of jurisprudence.

Lucas Fossey, Apprentice Solicitor

Having been with Backhouse Solicitors for nearly two years, and in my Solicitor Apprentice role for the last year, it’s great to look back and see how far I’ve progressed in this time. I’ve learned so much during that time and have gained valuable experience working on a variety of employment law matters. The support from the team has been amazing, and I feel much more confident in my abilities than when I first started. I’m proud of the progress I’ve made so far and look forward to continuing to develop my skills over the next year as I work towards qualification as a solicitor.

Charlotte Murphy, Apprentice Solicitor

Over the past year, our apprentices have approached every challenge with determination and enthusiasm. All three have made impressive progress in their studies, grown in confidence, and made a positive impact across the firm. It has been rewarding to watch them balance the demands of work and study with such professionalism and commitment.

Their strong work ethic and willingness to learn have been evident from the outset. By taking on greater responsibility, embracing every learning opportunity, and bringing a genuine passion for the law to their roles, they have shown how committed they are to developing their careers. Their growing knowledge, positive attitude, and consistently high standard of work continue to make a valuable contribution across the firm.

As they move into their second year, everyone at Backhouse is proud to support their continued development and looks forward to seeing all they achieve as they continue their journey towards qualification.
