The UK National Minimum Wage rates for 2019 have now been introduced together with increases in other statutory rates of pay. Employers are advised to ensure their payroll systems are updated from 1st April.
National Minimum Wage Rates from 1 April 2019:
- Workers aged 25 and over – £8.21 (up from £7.83)
- Workers aged 21 to 24 – £7.70 (up from £7.38)
- Workers aged 18 to 20 – £6.15 (up from £5.90)
- Workers aged under 18 but above school leaving age – £4.35 (up from £4.20)
- Apprentices ** – £3.90 (up from £3.70)
** – The apprentice rate applies to apprentices aged 16 to 18 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year of training. All other apprentices are entitled to the National Minimum Wage applicable to their age.
Increases in other Statutory Pay Rates
- Statutory Family-Related Pay – The weekly rate of statutory maternity, paternity, adoption and shared parental pay increases on 7 April 2019 to £148.68 (up from £145.18)
- Statutory Sick Pay –the weekly rate of statutory sick pay increases on 6 April 2019 to £94.25 (up from £92.05)
- Statutory Redundancy Pay – weekly pay for the purpose of redundancy pay calculations will now be capped at £525 (up from £508)
